What is running

The anatomy is real and the dynamics are not, and it is worth being exact about which is which.

The graph is MaleCNS male-cns:v1.0 as released: the complete brain and ventral nerve cord of an adult male Drosophila melanogaster, queried through neuPrint, with the released neuron identifiers carried through unchanged. Nothing about it is reconstructed, approximated or stood in for here.

The dynamics are. The native kernel described in the model is not yet running. What drives the arena today is a deterministic stand-in: a pure function of the tick index, with no server and no stored state, which is why two browsers open at the same minute see the same frame. It produces a heading, a position, an escape condition and a set of weights with the same shape and the same constraints as the kernel will, and it produces them without a single neuron.

So the walk on the front page is a walk. It is not a fly. When the kernel runs, this page will say so and the parameter tables elsewhere in these docs will fill in from it rather than from anything written by hand.
